Another fantastic show, my 3rd this year and I have to say the most enjoyable - It could have been the Ringwood Forty Niner pre show, or the fact that we were right at the front, or the sheer unadulterated joy following the purchase of the DVD ........ finally!
Kick off just after 8 and we had pork not lamb tonight, which I was pleased at, not only because I prefer it, but I got Sheep last Monday at the RAH.
The BIC was packed and the fullest I have seen it for the Aussies and the crowd also made much more noise this year - they get louder each time!. We were right down the front tonight and normally I prefer to be a bit farther back, for the full effect of the light show. But I have to say I found it thoroughly engaging at the front, felt like I was right in the action and it was great to see Steve Mac's intense look - he really is a purist.
The show I thought was faultless, could not spot anything out of place and I even saw Colin smile at least 3 times at the start of OOTD - they really looked like they were having fun tonight, maybe the week off has put some vinegar in them - absolutely fantastic gig and I look forward to Dublin.
Set List
In The Flesh The Thin Ice Another Brick In The Wall (Pt 1) The Happiest Days Of Our Lives Another Brick In The Wall (Pt 2) Learning To Fly Money Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun Mother Pigs
Interval
Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts 1-5) Time/Breathe The Great Gig In the Sky (Ola/Amy) Goodbye Blue Sky Empty Spaces/What Shall We Do Now Young Lust Keep Talking Hey You Nobody Home One Of These Days Wish You Were Here Band Intro by Jason - Bruce's & Sheila's, but no baby Euan ... Comfortably Numb
Encore
Run Like Hell
So, fairly standard fare for this year and perfectly executed. The Pig was out during 'Pigs' at stage right, Skippy came out for OOTD and they had to raise the mirror ball for Comfy from the stage as they could not hang it - the timing however was spot on. In fact the light show tonight seemed better overall than the RAH, I cannot put my finger on it, it just seemed more engaging. Mike (K) played a stormer on Sax too and I caught him giving our Mike a nod at the final wave goodbye, before leaving the stage. Our Mike also managed to blag a set list from Gareth!
A truly fantastic show, with a tremendous reaction from the crowd, who really made some noise after Comfy and lots of wide grins from the band. Without doubt the best performance they have put on in Bournemouth (IMHO) and the best show for me this year.
PS. I took particular note of the girls too (who again made me cry!) following TGGITS - there is a definite pause as Amy and Ola finish and they then joined each other under the blaze of a spotlight. The applause started then there was a gradual increase in the lights shining at the audience, which increased the ovation. So quite subtle, certainly well deserved but also clearly engineered to allow more reaction from the crowd than between the other songs. But hey, the crowd love it so bring it on.... |
