Just home from the show - here's the set list courtesy of Gareth, as ever. Shine On 1-5 What Do You Want From Me On The Turning Away Time Great Gig Pigs Brain Damage/Eclipse Astronomy Money Us & Them Learning to Fly Take It Back Set the Controls Nobody Home Wish You Were Here One of These Days Bricks 2 Comfortably Numb Hey You Run Like Hell A most enjoyable evening in the pleasant surroundings of Rochester Castle listening to my favourite music. The set list quite surprised me as some songs seemed to appear in 'unusual' places, but I think this may have been as much as anything to do with pushing songs with the lasers to the second half when darkness was falling. It was not the same without Mike Kidson, no doubt about it, but the gentleman who stood in for Mike, Carl Brunsdon (and I apologise profusely for I'm sure I have misspelled his name) gave a credible performance in what, for him, must have been somewhat nervous circumstances. Ola was also absent, but I don't know why. Consequently Amy sang Great Gig solo. The stage set was considerably reduced from what we have become used to of late. There was no circular back screen or the semicircular frame with all the lights around it. Nor was there the row of lights across the front of the stage. There was no glitter ball for Comfortably Numb, the first time I can ever remember this occurring, and for some reason Ian did not wear his dark glasses for Nobody Home. There was one projector throwing images onto a rectangular greyish coloured back cloth, which, to be honest, was difficult to see. I'm pleased to say that Skippy put in an appearance for One of These Days although he deflated in world record time prompting Nick, who was stood next to me, to remark that he's gone down quicker than Abi Titmuss. I can't imagine what he meant by that remark. A nice addition were the two large video screens, one either side of the stage. There was a boom camera in the pit front of stage, and a 'roving' hand held camera operative on stage and a 'fixed' camera on the tower above Gareth's sound desk, all of which afforded us with some nice close ups of individual band members. There was also a sort of spy camera looking over Bonney's shoulder which gave some great shots of him drumming. I bumped into Jamie Humphries later on - what a nice guy he is. It turns out he only lives about 2 miles from me and he'd dropped by the Castle to catch the show and meet up with the band. I don't know if anyone else realises it but Jamie plays in the London musical 'We Will Rock You', which of course, features the music of Queen. Talented guy me thinks. Like many others amongst us I'm always beating the drum for TAPFS and because Rochester was like a home fixture for me (being only 10 miles away) I managed to convince some first timers to come and see the show. I'm pleased to say that they are now converted and have threatened to go again. So, thanks to my party of 6 for their company tonight and also to Nick and Mrs Nick (aka Averil) for joining us, their presence was much enjoyed. |
